no excuses, just images

This is the time of year, where I would typically write some excuse why I was too busy to post. Going to skip the excuses and go straight to the images. Adding  a new album widget to the bottom right in addition to a couple of summer images here.

all about the music…

This has been my mantra for the last month or so. In fact, it’s been the consistent thread running through my life. I first realized it on a plane at 35,000 over the mid-Atlantic states. The hum of the engine, an entire row to myself and my iPod. I only put my “gotta hear” songs on the tiny device. Somewhere half way to Baltimore REM’s “Nightswimming” came on, something about the peace and quiet mixed with the rolling piano riff and…

Open letter to my students

To my students, I know that we have only been back to school for a week or two, but I there are a few things I want you to know. First and foremost, I am not an overly emotional, wear my heart on my sleeve kind of person. However, this does not mean that I don’t care about you. I take my time getting to know each and every one of you. The best relationships are built over time. I…

getting there….

As of yesterday, I have taken over 3500 photos and I really like 365 of them. I gave myself until Labor Day to reach my goal of 1,000 keepers and while I am not where I want to be, I still have time to get there. Some of the latest.

150 down….850 to go…

After spending almost a week not doing much on my project, I did make a little progress this week. For full disclosure, I have taken almost 1800 photos at this point in my summer, but I am I trying to take 1000 photos that say something, that make a viewer take more than a glance. But as the headline says, I have 150 I consider worthy, only 850 to go.

project update…

As of today, I am 116 photos toward my 1,000 photo goal. I feel pretty good about my progress so far. My photo project has taken me to Cave Hill Cemetery and various places around town. The weather was perfect the day I went to Cave Hill and the sky makes some of the photos look like postcards. Today, I stayed much closer to home, very close in fact. There is a metal sculpture of a woman that has intrigued…

pleasant surprises…

Sometimes when shooting, I am lost in the moment. I don’t check the back of the camera to see how the shots look. Yesterday was one of those moments. I was trying to so hard to be in the moment and listen to the singer, an uber talented student of mine, yet I was trying to capture good images. After graduation, I went to my classroom to start downloading images and found these two shots that I love. I love…

New Albany Riverfront Ampitheater…

Killing two birds with one stone, I had lunch in downtown New Albany and worked on my summer project. I knew that New Albany had a stage on the river but had not been down there. I headed there on a hot, humid overcast day. After editing, I kept about 15 photos from the day and these are my three favorites.

summer projects…

Each summer I commit to a project. Last summer I decided to instagram every day of summer, not because I am egotistical and believe that people are clamoring to know my every move but because I wanted to hold myself accountable for how I was spending my precious few days of summer.  I succeeded in meeting my goal and fully completing the project. This summer I decided on a project a bit more ambitious. We have all heard the old…

Purple Rain….

“I was dreaming when I wrote this, so forgive me if it goes astray….” Yesterday. The day the music died. Growing up in the 1980s, Prince was the soundtrack of my teens. There was something decadent about buying an album very few people had heard of and most of those who had, didn’t approve. My first Prince album was Dirty Mind, followed soon after by 1999. Living in a small town in Indiana, I really wasn’t exposed to music other than…
