the most difficult question of all

Over the past few weeks, I have been asked the same question multiple times. “Who is your favorite group?” While at first glance, it doesn’t seem like such a daunting question, for me it is. Music is more than a distraction to keep me occupied in the car. I can hear an old song and tell you exactly what I was doing and thinking when this song was popular. To me, songs are milestones. I really listen to the music…

another fall break in the books

If I summed up my fall break in one word it would be productive. I had lunch with friends, made a trip to Bloomington, worked on course materials and tried a new restaurant. I could not have asked for better weather for my days off. My favorite season did not disappoint. Since I am a huge grilled cheese fan, I had tried Lil Cheezers food truck. They opened a store front on Bardstown Road earlier this month. I was eager…

great view and great conversation

Sometimes the stars just align. I planned dinner and wine with a friend. Then invited another friend neither of us had seen in awhile. He then, in turn, invited another friend. The conversation ranged from buying a car in Cleveland to the Presidential Debate drinking game to the plausibility of the first friend running for political office in the next few years. Whew. Good wine, good conversation, good evening.

the great Fitzgerald

On this date in 1896, F Scott Fitzgerald was born. What he wrote in the 1920s is still relevant today. Even though his books were set in his day, he wrote about the American Dream and leading a life of waste and excess. The Great Gatsby has always been one of my favorite books and it never loses its appeal, no matter how many times I have read it. I always loved Nick Carraway; the way he befriended Gatsby…

a little bit of this, a little bit of that

I am disappointed in myself for not posting sooner. I have small bits of paper on which I jotted ideas for entries. It’s time to collect the bits of paper and put it in writing.   This weekend was our first taste of fall weather. I love fall, I think it’s my favorite season. I love the cool crisp air blowing the leaves around, that rustling sound makes me smile every time. I love getting up in the morning and…

Bloomington in August…

No weekend trip to Bloomington would be complete without a stop at Kilroy’s. I don’t know many IU alumni who don’t have at least a few good memories from this place. Even though it has been renovated since my time on campus, it’s still that same color of green on the inside. I had the same college roommate for my first three years of college. After graduation, she attended IU law so she and I still saw each other often…

Even though I have not been as diligent as I would like with posting, I have been keeping up with my promise to try new things. In the past four weeks: I have taken on not one, but two, new jobs. I am preparing to teach a course I have not taught previously. I found a cool, new place to enjoy in Bloomington. I have met several new faces. My list may not seem all that monumental to some, but…

today’s photos

In my effort to keep trying new things this summer, I ventured out to a new photo spot. A friend who is an amazing wedding photographer needed to get out to calibrate her camera settings, she tweeted asking for company. I offered and she took me up on it. She suggested Caperton Swamp. I had driven past it, but never been. Cannot believe how many deer we saw. Here are the best of the day:

Sometimes you don’t want to like a book. Maybe because you don’t like the cover or you think the author is a hack. In this case, I didn’t want to acknowledge that Rob Lowe could actually be a writer. Too many Hollywood celebrities are writing books today. Some of them really believe they have a story to tell, while some of them are just trying to cash in in their 15 minutes of fame. However, I was wrong about Rob…
