a little bit of this, a little bit of that

I am disappointed in myself for not posting sooner. I have small bits of paper on which I jotted ideas for entries. It’s time to collect the bits of paper and put it in writing.

This weekend was our first taste of fall weather. I love fall, I think it’s my favorite season. I love the cool crisp air blowing the leaves around, that rustling sound makes me smile every time. I love getting up in the morning and it being slightly cool in my house, not so cold that I don’t want to get out of bed, but the kind of cool that makes me want to put on a sweater, jeans and a pair of boots. I got my wish this morning, I wore this fall’s first pair of boots. Fall is also football season. High school games on Friday nights, college games on Saturday and the NFL on Sunday. Best time of year, hands down.

On a different note, I found a new television show to DVR on Palladium a music network I found on cable. It’s called Live from Daryl’s House. Daryl Hall, yep the blond guy from Hall & Oates, refinished a farm house and added a music studio. He invites guests. The guest plays a song or two of his with some back-up from Daryl and then they both sing a redux of a Hall & Oates song. They also chat a bit and eat a meal together with Daryl’s band.  Jason Mraz and Cee Lo have been the first two guests and I’m looking forward to seeing who guests in future episodes.

Another thing I am looking forward to is college basketball season. It’s going to be a good one for my Hoosiers. We have a solid group of returning players: Zeller, Watford, Oladipo, Sheehey, Hulls. The incoming group is one of the strongest classes in the country. I was pleased to see three of the new guys (Jurkin, Hollowell, Perea) out at the football game. When they walked through the crowd and started to get recognized, they were mobbed by kids. A group of little girls ran up to meet the guys and one of the smallest ones grabbed one of the player’s legs and hugged him.The three were so polite to the fans, posing for numerous photos. Even nicer than the smiles on the kids’ faces, were the smiles on the player’s faces. They seemed to genuinely enjoy interacting with the kids.

  1. There is something about the crisp air and dry leaves, but seeing a farmer harvesting a field full of corn was always the tell-tale sign of fall for me. I cannot claim to love fall because I know what is coming sooner rather than later, but IU in the fall cannot be beat. Let’s hope those b-ball boys are prepared to show us their greatness!
